Chana Dal with Spinach

Easy to make, with the goodness of Chana which is rich in protein, this dal is surely not to be missed.


  1. Chana dal- 250 g
  2. Spinach- ½ kg
  3. Onion- 2 big
  4. Garlic- 5-6
  5. Cumin- 1/4th tsp
  6. Whole red chilli- 2
  7. Ginger- 1 small piece
  8. Garam masala- 1/4th tsp
  9. Red chilly powder- 1/4th tsp
  10. Oil- 2tbs


  1. Wash and boil dal in 1 kg of water (boiling time ½ and hour to 45 mins)
  2. Chop spinach finely and add to the boiling dal, with salt

For temper/ tadka

  1. Heat oil in a large frying pan
  2. Once heated, add cumin to the oil
  3. Add onion and garlic to the temper and wait till it browns.
  4. Add tomato and the masalas next
  5. Wait for the tomatoes to putrefy. Once putrefied, add the temper to the mix.
The Channa dal is ready to be savoured with rice or rotis.
